Outside of business, Robert is a keen sportsman and avid cyclist, having taken part in the Cape Argus Race, South Africa, 16 years running. The race is an annual cycle race hosted in Cape Town, South Africa, usually 109 km long. It is the first event outside Europe to be included in the International Cycling Union’s Golden Bike Series. Robert often raises money for charities when racing; the charities he has supported in the past include:  The Snowdrop Trust, Ronald McDonald Children's Charity, William Wates Memorial Trust and the British Heart Foundation.
